The inventor of the AS-interface is the company Bihl+Wiedemann. The same company has also recently established the ASi-5 standard with features for "Industry 4.0".
Conveyors are one of the domains for applying the AS-interface bus, specifically ASi-5, in Bihl+Wiedemann drive controllers.
How do you do that?
The AS-interface is a bus with a different focus than all current industrial Ethernet based buses. Here it is a two-wire system with a power + modulated data component.
The use on modular conveyors mainly benefits from the possibility to "tap" the slave nodes on the wire pair cable exactly where the sensors are located and to connect the motors exactly where they are powered. The cable trays are therefore optimized. In addition, the inherent integration of safety technology... We will advise, deliver and even commission if necessary!
